The collection consists of three items: note, unsigned and unaddressed, 15 Dec. 1952, extending an invitation and mentioning Kenneth's lecture; letter to Kenneth Murdock, 9 Oct. 1953, lamenting that as much as he would like to lecture at Harvard, his time is not his own and he will be unable at this time, with a post-script about the birth of his second god-daughter; signed holiday card, unaddressed and undated, with an image of angels and shepherds from the Book of Hours, published by the Bodleian Library.

Joyce Cary was a British author, best known as a novelist. Born in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, and raised in England, Cary was a sickly youth who showed a talent for writing and painting; he studied art, but questioned his ability and quit to attend Trinity College, Oxford, instead.
